Project summary

Injecting new life into community care provision throughout Lanarkshire, we designed and built five state-of-the-art medical facilities delivered under the NHS Lanarkshire Healthcare Framework as part of its capital development programme – “A Picture of Health”.

Encompassing localised wellbeing hubs of disparate scale, and value, ranging from a £7.1 million Mental Health Centre in Caird, to a £3.8 million Complex Needs Unit in Coathill, this four-year project has constructed the platform for the provision of a cocktail of care, which enables patients, and their families, to heal, recover, learn and enjoy respite.

The detail

Embedding a positive culture from the outset, we appointed a dedicated Framework Director, supported by a Framework Manager, armed with comprehensive healthcare experience, to drive the four-year programme and ensure robust engagement with the client, and its individual stakeholders, throughout the process. With an overall value of £28.5 million, four of the facilities are rated as NEAT ‘Excellent’ and feature an innovative Building Management System with off-site monitoring, and control, functionality enabling the healthcare professionals with responsibility to concentrate on patient care.

The five projects consist of:

Kirklands Learning Disabilities Assessment and Treatment Centre (£5.2m): Design and build of a new unit providing 12 care beds in a single storey building on the existing operational Kirklands Hospital Campus at Bothwell.

Caird House Mental Health Residential Centre (£7.1m): Design and build of a new unit providing a total of 27 beds (12 complex needs and 15 low secure care beds) adjacent to the existing operational Caird House building.

Carluke Resource Centre (£11.2m): Design and build of a new community resource and social centre providing improved and expanded facilities for two General Medical Practices, a Dentistry Practice together with all of the services provided currently by NHS Lanarkshire.

Complex Needs Unit, Coathill (£3.8m): Design and build of a new 12 bed residential centre for adults with complex needs. Constructed on the existing operational Coathill Hospital Campus.

Hamilton Primary Care Centre (£1.2m): Refurbishment and conversion of an existing social security office. We worked in collaboration to develop the scheme from the feasibility stage through to completion.
