GRAHAM was selected as a Principal Supply Chain Partner to deliver the major new critical care unit on a live operational hospital site through Frameworks Scotland 2 (FS2). Our task was to bring all of the critical care facilities into one area, over two floors, and to redevelop and upgrade the existing live theatre block.
Praised by NHS Highland for our "dedication and effort in delivering this complex and challenging healthcare project", we finalised the Raigmore Hospital CSU in September 2020 following a design and build programme that spanned over four years.
The £28M upgrade has brought all critical care services, which include the Acute Medical Assessment Unit, the Intensive Care Unit, Surgical High Dependency Unit, CCU, Cardiology, and Theatre suite, adjacent to each other over two floors.
A permanent wrap extension formed a new corridor and facilitated the seamless excavation of beds from the theatre suites. The operating theatres were also refurbished and an additional theatre was added to bring the total number of theatres in the suite to ten. Seven of the theatres were equipped with specialist laminar airflow, ensuring the air within the theatre environment is at the cleanest possible standard.
We also created new changing facilities, an office area, and a rooftop plant room. Importantly, the co-location of critical care services has maximised space, improved patient flow in the hospital, and enhanced the privacy and dignity of patients.
