Project summary

Fully aligned to the University of Glasgow’s (UoG) aspiration to create “a campus to inspire the next generation of world changers”, we have successfully delivered multiple projects within its city campus estate as part of a Minor Works Framework Agreement. Commencing in 2015, we gained selection to both Lot 2 (£1-5m) and Lot 3 (£5m+) on four-year terms. In the execution of complex schemes featuring the Kelvin Data Centre and the Davidson and West Medical Buildings, we have significantly enhanced the student experience at the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world (established in 1451).

The detail

Our relationship with UoG started as far back as 2007 when we began the construction of an award winning (RIAS ‘Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award’ 2009), world-class centre for veterinary medicine – ‘Small Animal Hospital’ (£10.8m). A decade on and we remain a key partner of the university through our consistent, quality delivery of projects emanating from its Minor Works Framework Agreement. In support of Professor Andrew Tobin’s ground-breaking research into neurodegenerative diseases, we applied a multi-phased approach to the £3.5m refurbishment and redevelopment of the Davidson and West Medical Buildings (which form part of the Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology). Through close collaboration with UoG’s estates department, and researchers/academics, we seamlessly handed over completed sections in three stages throughout the 12-month scheme. A phased approach was also implemented for the Kelvin Data Centre, as we constructed a fit-for-purpose data centre to accommodate UoG’s Scot-Grid servers, the School of I.T. and additional corporate I.T. systems. We also provided links to other critical switch rooms and completed associated grounds and infrastructure works, including mains services.
