Aurs Road is closed from the junction of Springfield Road in Barrhead to the junction of Stewarton Road in Newton Mearns. Diversion routes are in place via Stewarton Road, Nitshill Road and Darnley Road. Pedestrian access to the main path on either side on Aurs Road will be closed for the duration of the works.
The route is set to be transformed - from a winding, single carriage road to a safer, straighter road with a new active travel route and stunning waterside promenade overlooking Balgray Reservoir.
Led by East Renfrewshire Council, the ambitious £22.68 million project will be funded through £12.72 million from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, which is made up of £5.5 million in funding by both the UK and Scottish governments and £1.72 million from East Renfrewshire Council. The rest of the funding is provided by Transport Scotland through Sustrans’ Places for Everyone programme, the Scottish Government’s Bridge Fund and developer contributions from new house building projects in the area.

Since commencing work at Aurs Road, GRAHAM has been committed to forming strong links with East Renfrewshire Council's Education Department to ensure young people in the area benefit from the opportunities the Aurs Road Project will create.
Barrhead High School are working in collaboration with Glasgow Clyde College to provide pupils with sector-specific, vocational training programms aimed at providing young people with the knowledge and practical skills required to enter the construction sector.
GRAHAM have committed to further enhance the sector specific training by facilitating site visits, project specific presentations based on construction operations and providing work experience placements to allow pupils to gain a better understanding on how a live site operates.
Pupils of Barrhead Highs School visited the Aurs Road project this week and enjoyed an overview of the project and a careers in construction presentation before heading out to site.
David Clifton, Year Out Student, was on hand to provide an in-depth overview of construction plans for the project and share his own experience of working within the construction industry.
Barrhead High School and Glasgow Clyde College, will progress all who attended the site visit towards gaining their CSCS cards and secure work placements on the Aurs Road project in preparation of starting their careers in the construction sector.
Douglas Jupp, GRAHAM Project Manager recently met with East Renfrewshire Council Leader Owen O'Donnell, Elaine Cheatley from Work EastRen Employability Services and Paul McIlvenny from local charity Include Me 2 Club to present a number of donations made by the project team to support the local community.
Since commencing back in January the following donations have been made.
Me 2 Club: A donation of £3000 to support the charities work with children and adults with additional support and disabilities.
Work East Ren: A donation of £4187 to the Council's employability service to fund a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) course to upskill local people to access opportunities in the construction sector.
Sponsorship to the value of £500 to the Young Enterprise Scotland Awards event.
