A year since the official opening of the A379 South-West Exeter Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge for Devon County Council.
The 36-metre span bridge has become an iconic feature of the evolving Southwest Exeter development strategy for the area. Designed and built by leading contractor GRAHAM, the bridge has improved connectivity within the area, significantly enhancing pedestrian and cyclists’ access to employment, residential and leisure amenities.
Mark Hyland, GRAHAM Contracts Manager said:
“The bridge has become an extremely attractive asset for the local community, providing a safe and distinguishably unique route for pedestrians and cyclists. As the Southwest Exeter development continues to grow around the structure, the bridge installation has provided a statement in shaping the area’s unique landscape whilst promoting safe access to the surrounding developments.
“We successfully delivered a structure that is both functional and visually impressive, whilst satisfactorily overcoming logistical and safety challenges without any adverse impact to surrounding works, nearby commuters or residents in a timely manner stated Mark.
The bridge’s complex installation along with site specific logistical constraints, which effectively landlocked a great proportion of the site due to several surrounding adjacent live developments caused its challenges”.
At GRAHAM we are committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that enhance communities enriching the lives of those who live and work there.
