Nottingham’s Bendigo Building Reaches Topping Out Milestone image

The Bendigo Building, a landmark purpose-built student accommodation project in Nottingham has topped out, marking a major step towards its completion. This milestone was celebrated with an event, bringing key project partners together to share the success of reaching this significant construction stage and the start of a new era for students in Nottingham.

Located on the corner of Bath Street and Brook Street, the Bendigo Building is set to transform the skyline of Nottingham's Creative Quarter. Developed by Bricks Group and operated by its subsidiary experience-led brand ‘true student’, the new £70 million development, ‘true Nottingham’, will mark a noteworthy advancement in the realm of purpose-built student accommodation in the city.

Enhancing Nottingham’s student scene and skyline

With the goal of striking a perfect balance between comfortable, premium living and sociable, wellbeing-focused student life, the 13-storey tower will house 661 bedrooms (including 417 studios, 208 cluster apartments and 36 accessible rooms) and a range of purposeful spaces inspired by student insight, aimed at enhancing the trueLife experience. These include a state-of-the-art gym, a festival zone with breakout areas and meeting rooms, a fully landscaped garden, and secure car parking and cycle storage.

Leading the way in social value and community support

The project has delivered significant social value benefits to date, including a £6 million social economic return on investment. It has promoted social skills and career opportunities in construction, engaged with the local community through initiatives such as the installation of a bleed control cabinet and kit which offers vital emergency resources, and supported the local economy with an £8 million local supply chain spend.

Ronan Hughes, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said:

“The topping out ceremony not only marks a construction milestone but also symbolises the future of student living in Nottingham. Bringing together our key project partners today allows us to acknowledge everyone’s invaluable contributions and foster a sense of unity and shared achievement.
