The project team working on the Miller’s Quay development selected a number of local charities in the Wirral area to support through financial donations.

GRAHAM, the contractor of the works, was pleased to donate to the Tranmere Rovers’ Super White Christmas Appeal, sponsoring its Adult’s Christmas Party and Matchday Experience at Prenton Park on Saturday 23rd December. The donation provided adults experiencing loneliness, homelessness, isolation, or those needing some festive cheer with a hot meal, gift set and ticket for the game against Swindon Town. Some tickets were for The Kop stand, which is home to the famous songs and drums, while others were for the main stand, offering a less noisy and safe space for the attendees to enjoy the match.

Matt Houghton, Head of Business Development and Community at Tranmere Rovers Football Club, said:

“GRAHAM has a reputation for supporting the communities where they work and their sponsorship of our Super White Christmas event is testament to their social values. I'd like to thank GRAHAM for supporting this event which provided vulnerable adults with an opportunity to enjoy a hot meal, some festive entertainment and our home game against Swindon Town.”

Pension Insurance Corporation plc (‘PIC’), the development’s investor, donated to the Wirral Foodbank which provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are in crisis. Since opening in 2011, the charity has supported 137,753 local people with emergency food and is playing a significant role in trying to combat poverty and hunger in the Wirral.

A further donation from supply chain partners FK Facades, Oakleaf, HE Simm, Floorform and Branniff Joinery was made to the Come Together Christmas Appeal. The funds raised purchase gas/electricity cards, Tesco food vouchers and new toys and clothes for families who need a helping hand in these hard times across Liverpool and the North West.

Peter Reavey, Regional Director at GRAHAM, commented:

“We are delighted that the Miller’s Quay development team has been able to support these inspirational local charities that deliver such a positive impact to the Wirral community. We hope our donations will be able to further enhance the fantastic work they do.”

James Agar, Head of Long Income at Pension Insurance Corporation, said:

“Miller’s Quay has seen the creation of considerable social value through jobs and education. It is an outstanding example of what can be achieved by a group of forward-thinking, innovative and committed teams working together with a shared vision. PIC has invested £1.5 billion so far in built environment projects around the country, and we look forward to investing considerably more as our business continues to grow and we seek to back the pensions of our policyholders with long-term, secure cashflows.”

Miller’s Quay is a highly sustainable development and delivers significant social value through the provision of 100 affordable new homes. Its construction has created cutting-edge opportunities for the local community and improved employment prospects for local students. Since the start of construction, 319 students from Wirral Met College have benefitted from the ‘live’ classroom on its doorstep where students are taking part in a number of activities and learning a wide range of skills.
