The four cranes will now be known as Lofty, Lottie, Lenny and Lily thanks to P7 pupils from Victoria Park Primary School.

GRAHAM has partnered with Victoria Park Primary School to name four cranes at Belfast’s first BTR development, The Loft Lines.

After contacting several schools across the city, the contractor teamed up with the local primary school, which is located just a kilometre from the development in the Titanic Quarter.

Students Jaxon McMaster, Olivia Pearson, Kylin McNeill and Freya Kennedy won the competition, dubbing the cranes Lofty, Lottie, Lenny and Lily.

All 60 of the school’s P7 students participated in the competition, encouraging them to consider Belfast’s culture and the city’s link to the Titanic, famously built in the Harland and Wolff shipyard where The Loft Lines development now sits. The students also designed posters around themes such as construction and site safety.

The initiative was led by GRAHAM social impact manager Janet McLean, who recently visited the school to announce the competition winners and award certificates and goodie bags. As part of ongoing community outreach, Janet has also led STEM workshops with the students, including building a giant tetrahedron.

Janet said:

“This competition marked a fantastic opportunity to spark the imaginations of young minds and inspire them to think about construction in a different light. Lofty, Lottie, Lenny and Lily are wonderful names for our cranes, and we’re grateful to all the pupils for participating.

“We’re pleased to be working with Victoria Park Primary School and to continue building on our relationship with the students to show them the importance of STEM and the vast career options available to them in the construction industry.

“We are keen to work with more local schools on community projects at The Loft Lines and our other Belfast projects.”

Daniel Ryden, Vice Principal at Victoria Park Primary School, said:

“The school was delighted to be invited by GRAHAM to participate in this exciting project. We pride ourselves on our links with local industry and with the Loft Lines development right on our doorstep, we knew the opportunity to name the cranes would definitely inspire our P7 pupils.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with GRAHAM.”

The Loft Lines is a major new development in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. It will create 778 homes in the city centre: 151 will be affordable homes, while 627 will be build-to-rent apartments. The complex will comprise three residential blocks of varying heights, a striking public square, and a waterfront promenade, which can be used by the wider community.

The landmark project is expected to be completed in summer 2026. Additional space within the development is earmarked for commercial or community purposes, with the flexibility to be used as a bar or restaurant.
