By using OpenSpace, cutting-edge reality capture technology, on the Bendigo project in Nottingham, it’s improving quality of delivery and enhancing project management.

Daniel Kumi, a recent graduate, has been given the responsibility of conducting weekly walk-arounds to digitally document the progress of the construction project. This role not only allows Daniel to apply his academic knowledge in a real-world setting but also emphasises the importance of teamwork. Collaborating closely with Jack Buckley, a digital information technician, Daniel ensures that every detail is accurately captured and recorded for Jack’s review. Jack’s expertise in digital tools and data management complements Daniel’s fresh perspective, making their partnership crucial for maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency throughout the project.

How is this technology transforming the way GRAHAM is delivering Bendigo?

Site teams can capture 360° images by simply walking around with a camera mounted on their hard hats. This process takes about 30 minutes per floor, significantly speeding up manual documentation efforts. The captured data is then uploaded, enabling easy week-on-week comparisons.
  • Integration with BIM: OpenSpace integrates seamlessly with BIM systems, allowing for a more cohesive and detailed understanding of the project. This integration supports better planning and co-ordination, ensuring that the project stays on track.

About the Bendigo project

GRAHAM is constructing the new 661-bed Bendigo student accommodation scheme for property developer, Bricks Group, which is due to open in September 2025.

The completed building, which will be operated by Bricks’ acclaimed management platform 'true student,' will bring new vibrancy to the city and high-end accommodation to students. It will offer great connectivity to Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham’s train station, retail area and entertainment venues.
