Nelson Place Student Accommodation is a National GOLD winner in the Climate Change Benefits category at the Green Apple Awards for 2024.
This is excellent recognition for a state of the art facility that boasts the first two blue roofs to be installed in Northern Ireland and has achieved BREEAM very good and EPC "A" rating.
The award is testament to the hard work and engagement of the site team who delivered Nelson Place as sustainably as possible, with achievements including:
- Northern Ireland’s first blue roof
- Living green roof to add ecological value
- 16 Swift bricks to support Ireland’s largest swift colony
- 99% of construction waste diverted from landfill
- Championing the reduction of single use plastics
- Tree planting in the Belfast Hills

The independent judging panel of The Green Apple Awards commented:

The project reduces carbon emissions with electric-powered machinery, sustainable materials, and efficient heating systems. It promotes wildlife, supports local conservation efforts, and achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating.”
