GRAHAM completes construction at P&G's new manufacturing plant in Essex

GRAHAM has completed construction works for Proctor & Gamble’s (P&G) new laundry beads making facility in Gray’s, Essex.

Project Overview

This £17 million project, which was completed on schedule, involved the construction of an additional manufacturing facility making provision for equipment to produce Lenor and Fairy Beads, as used in washing machines and tumble dryers, enabling P&G to keep up with its continued growth in the European market.

This additional production line substantially increases their product output, with the building future-proofed to accommodate a fourth production line when required.

Project Scope and Details

The project included civils works to construct new bulk delivery bays to feed the new silo tanks, streamlining the process and creating increased delivery capacity of the raw product. 150 meters of preloaded pipe bridges were fabricated and installed. This allows various utilities to be transferred across the site, and over the packaging building, to link the Tank Farm and various process areas to the product line while maintaining uninterrupted existing capacity.

A fire rated and sprinklered dry pallet store was also constructed below the automated transfer link, which is critical to the plant’s operation. This moves the finished product from the various production lines around the plant to the distribution centre for onward shipping. The new production line is expected to be in full operation by the end of this year.

Statement from GRAHAM’s Regional Director

Pat O’Hare, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said:

“We’re delighted to have completed construction on such an important manufacturing facility for P&G. This new plant will allow them to maintain their dominant global market share, ensuring they have a competitive edge, not just today, but in the future. We are glad to have built this facility which will allow P&G to achieve this.”
