GRAHAM installs beams for Bentley Bridge

This year has seen substantial progress across the entire scheme with key tasks completed, including:

  • Archaeological investigation works
  • Environmental mitigation
  • Site clearance
  • Installation of boundary fencing
  • Installation of the Bramble Hill culvert
  • Works to Bentley Bridge including the recent Installation of bridge beams

Throughout the year, earthworks have been carried out to shape the landscape along the length of the scheme. Approximately 140,000 tonnes of soil have been excavated and placed on-site, eliminating the need for earthwork material importation. Additionally, 24,000 tonnes of recycled foundation capping stone have been placed, and around 8,000 linear meters of drainage have been installed.

Bentley Bridge Beam Installation

The project recently achieved a major milestone with the installation of bridge beams on the new Bentley Bridge. Using a 1,000-tonne crane, four 80-tonne precast concrete beams, each 33 metres long, were lifted onto reinforced concrete abutments. This forms the base of the bridge, which will carry the A164 over the new A1079 link road, with the next phase of works focused on building the bridge deck.

Ongoing Work on the A1079

Work on the A1079 continues, with traffic currently using the southern half of the roundabout. On the northern half, drainage for phase 1 is complete and the new concrete drainage V-channel has been installed, Kerbing of phase 1 is also complete, paving the way for the team to focus on the pavement construction of the phase 1 second half of the roundabout.

Progress from Skidby to Beverley

From Skidby, to Beverley, significant progress has been made. Drainage has been installed; foundation capping stone has been laid, from Skidby to Copperflat Lane. Concrete drainage v-channel installed from Dunflat Road to Copperflat Lane. On the A164 Minster Way and Lincoln Way, deep excavations alongside the existing carriageway for the first phase of works are complete, with foundation capping stone placed and compacted with drainage installation complete also for the first phase.

This has allowed the team to re-open the previously closed eastbound lanes & Victoria Road carriageway, including all relative footpaths during the seasonal period from 19 Dec 2024 till 6 Jan 2025, to eliminate any added congestion on the local network during this busy period for local businesses and residents.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, the focus will shift to completing the bridge deck on Bentley Bridge, continuing drainage installations, and progressing with the construction of the second half of the roundabout on the A1079. The project remains on track, with each phase meticulously planned to ensure timely and efficient completion.
