The team have made significant progress in recent weeks with earthworks and utility works across the scheme.

Earthworks will soon start again between Skidby roundabout and Dunflat Road following the completion of essential pre-earthworks drainage. So far, the scheme has stripped and stored 11,000m3 of topsoil and will now start to excavate, transport and place 26,500m3 of class 2 soils in this area.

The successful diversion of the 400mm and 150mm Yorkshire Water mains over 475m in the area between Dunflat Road and Coppleflat Lane means earthworks are set to restart in July to bring the new northbound carriageway up to the current A164 carriageway level.

Earthworks are ongoing from the A1079 south to the A164, with 80,000m3 being moved as part of the cut and fill operation. Three of the seven new attenuation ponds are nearing completion, the new ponds will store surface water and help prevent localised flooding in the future.

You might have seen big changes to the landscape when travelling along the A1079 as works to construct the new A1079 roundabout take shape, with the south of the roundabout now up to capping level, with drainage works ongoing.

The new Bentley Bridge continues to rise out of the ground, with concrete pours completed to form the bridge abutment foundations – reinforced concrete supports that will support the new bridge stems and deck.

Work on the structures wingwall foundations continue with approximately 50-tonnes of reinforced steel work to be installed and 300m3 of concrete to be poured.

By late autumn, the structure will be complete. This impressive feat will involve securing 193 tonnes of reinforcement and pouring 1500 cubic metres of structural concrete. This robust foundation is designed to support the massive 82-tonne beams that will carry the new northbound A164 carriageway.
